Ear Piercing Aftercare – How to Look After Your New Piercings

New piercings are a small investment in future jewellery joy – and with the right aftercare they heal quickly and beautifully. Here is everything you need to know, from the first week to your first change of earrings.

Aftercare – simple but important

Clean twice a day according to your piercer's advice, don't touch the piercings with unwashed hands, and leave the earring in for the whole healing period.

Healing timeline in weeks – an earlobe piercing heals in 6 to 8 weeks, marked with the point at 8 weeks where earrings can safely be changed, while cartilage takes 24 to 52 weeks or longer.

How long should they stay in?

Earlobe: around 6–8 weeks. Cartilage: considerably longer. Always follow your piercer's recommendation – it comes before any general advice.

Time to change – choose the right material

Newly healed piercings are sensitive. Choose nickel-free surgical steel – the same material as in our waterproof earrings – and give your piercings the best possible start.

If something feels wrong

Redness or pain that doesn't settle? Contact your piercer or a healthcare professional – better one question too many.
